The story of Mathilde, member of the Skin association

When she discovered Skin, Mathilde, a former patient with a passion for art, was immediately attracted by the idea of a collaboration between an artist/brand and a patient around a common project. Just as much as we were! This is why we are now supporting her in the co-creation of a jewellery collection. In order to get to know our partner better and following her visit to our Ardèche workshops, we invited her to come and meet us and tell us her story.

MATHILDE BERNERON-ROPARS, MEMBER OF THE SKIN ASSOCIATION, ANSWERS THE GEORGETTES

How did you get to know SKIN?
I needed to find answers that I couldn't find in the hospital setting. I discovered a community of young women on Instagram, through private accounts for people with cancer. One of them, who I became friends with, had joined SKIN and collaborated around the creation of a piece of jewellery. Being a graduate in metal crafts, I immediately wanted to join the association. I really liked the idea of a project carried out between an artist and a former patient to sublimate the course of the disease.

What is your best memory within the association?
The “Pink October” event in 2020, because it was my first “real” meeting with the association and the women with whom I exchanged on social networks. We were able to talk to each other in person and it was a very powerful moment between us.

Who did you enjoy meeting the most?
Undoubtedly Patricia, who got me into SKIN. She is in fact at the origin of the combination of SKIN with Les Georgettes! The idea of the partnership was born out of her artistic project of co-creating a piece of jewellery.

What do you particularly like about SKIN's partnership with our brand?
I find that transforming the journey of a cancer into a piece of jewellery, and thus into something precious and unique, offers a beautiful symbolism. I also liked to see that Les Georgettes jewellery was made in French factories. There is a real connection to craftsmanship. Given my training, it meant a lot to me.

Do you have a passion, hobby or activity that drives you?
I am currently an art therapist working in child and adolescent psychiatry. I am driven and passionate about art. Everything is related to this in my hobbies. When I have free time, I like to see exhibitions, meet friends who are craftsmen and discover their work and so on.

In your daily life, which woman inspires you the most?
It's more like a group... of young women. I admire this generation that wants to assert itself as an individual and that shakes things up. I work with teenage girls and they are the most beautiful representatives of feminism today. They can be counted on, just as much as the young boys who are growing up with different benchmarks and are also going down this path. I think of the young singer Eddy de Pretto and his song "Tu seras un homme". Things are moving forward, and that's good.

What is your relationship with jewellery?
It has evolved over time. At first I didn't wear any. Then my grandmother started to pass on those of our family to me. One of my ancestors made jewellery, and it's his that I wear with me every day. After cancer, I got attached to earrings. When I was bald, I needed to have some to dress my face. It's a reflex that I have kept and I no longer leave my house without wearing any! I have quite the collection.

What are your favourite Les Georgettes jewellery items?
The earrings! Especially the pair of 25mm Boucles earrings, the Sleeper earrings and the Girafe ones, from Les Cadettes.
