What’s the difference between a ring and a band?

A ring is a piece of jewellery that may feature one or more stones, pearls or other decorative elements — such as a Solitaire engagement ring set with a diamond. A band, however, is a simple metal circle — though it may also be set with stones or cubic zirconia — and isn’t necessarily a piece of jewellery. The band of a ring refers to the part that encircles the finger. A wedding ring is typically a band made of gold (yellow, rose or white) or silver, although it can also be crafted from stainless steel, metal or other materials, and comes in a variety of price points.
